I'm pondering what career I should carry out with?
I am a 14 year old freshman in high school, but my parents say its good to know what career you want, so you can focus all of your energy on that goal. I have thought about several careers, keeping in mind that I want a "fun" job, and one that pays well (isn’t that what everyone wants?).
My first dream job that I came up with was a car designer. I love automobiles, and I love to draw. I have always loved cars, and ever since I could sit up as a baby I would play with toy cars. When I was is Elementary School, I would constantly get people asking me to draw cars for them, because I was so good at it.
Still drawing and loving cars, I found (with the purchase of the first Sims game) that I loved to design homes as well. I began badgering my mother to buy me lodes of graph paper so I could design homes constantly.
Then, more recently, I found that I wanted to be a Police Officer and I went as far as requesting information from a local college about their criminal justice branch, and I am still receiving calls from that college
But, there is a problem with this choice. Yes it sounds fun to race through town saving the day, but it is dangerous and it doesn’t pay as well as I want to be payed.
Now, today I went searching through Wikipedia for answers. I searched up Upper Middle Class, and it told me that Dentists are amongst these people in our society. So now I am thinking about being a dentist, probably a orthodontic dentist (I’m not big on surgury and blood and guts). It also sounds kinda fun in a twisted way. I think it could get boring after a while though, BUT, you have lots of money to play with!
So, with all this said, what do you think I should strive for? And please, no stupid answers! This is my future we’re talking about here.
I’m 14 as well and I have an idea of what I want to be but I’m not certain
Look at the grades you get in certain subjects & see what you enjoy doing as not everything is about money, you could be doing the best paid job in the world and hate it with a passion
You don’t need to know what you want to be yet, you still have a lot of time to decide

maybe try going into engineering as in the architect side of it. from there you should be able to use your creative side and have fun designing things and you may even be able to get in with a car company and help there design team. dentist is also a good job but you have to think about if you could actually do it because in some cases you have to cause pain to people in order to help them. but its high paid and i know of orthodontists you have cars such as aston martins etc if your into cars surely you want a cool one. but i’d recommend waiting a while and see what you become interested in later on in school and keep all options open.

There are a lot of potential hurdles for minors in work, many of them legal, moms and dads need to be vigilant about that. There is a lot of guidance from the resource in the box below on this issue, they also have guidance for all people who are searching for work, or who need to change careers.

I’m 15 and a freshman in high school, too, so I get where you are coming from. I’m constantly thinking about what I’m gonna do and I, too, want something high paying but fun. What I’ve concluded, though, is that you can’t really decide being so unexperienced. That’s what college and senior year of high school is for. You test out what you really like, you know?
What I think you should do, and what I’m doing, is just to keep up really good grades so that you have the whole world of colleges at your fingertips when you get to the point where you need to apply. Hence, you know you’re going to have a good future for you are applying to good colleges (why you need good grades) and once in, you can decide where you’re future is going.
If this still doesn’t convince you - my oldest sister is in Harvard right now. When she was applying, she didn’t really know what she wanted to do. It was a really broad spectrum of just "law". She got accepted, and after a year and a half, she knows what she wants to do. And even if she doesn’t, she will earn a Harvard degree and can excel in whatever job because of that. That, to me, seems like the perfect plan and is what I hope to do.
Anyways, hope I could help.
